Fat Transfer Relocates Fat to Where It Should Be

Fat is one of the major nutrients that fuel our body with energy and keep us alive. However, when too much fat is consumed and little exercise is performed, fat accumulates throughout our body and becomes a burden on both our health and physical appearance.

Luckily, there are several cosmetic procedures that help reduce fat in our body and enhance our look. Most of these procedures share a common purpose which is getting rid of the excess fat. One procedure, however, handles fat the other way around by exploiting it to rejuvenate the body and improve its figure.

Known as fat grafting or fat transfer, the procedure works by transferring fat from areas in body where excess fat is plentiful, such as the abdomen and thighs and injects it into areas that have less fat volume, such as the face, hands, breasts or buttocks. Fat transfer is considered safe procedure with natural and long-lasting results.

Unlike other famous procedures such as liposuction, fat transfer doesn’t aim to reduce the fat volume but rather distribute it evenly across the body to achieve and ideal proportional body figure. Thus, fat transfer is highly recommended for anyone who:

  • Desires look younger and healthier by eliminating the signs of aging process such as saggy skin, sunken cheeks, wrinkles and facial creases.
  • Desires to appear more sexy and attractive by enhancing body figure via breast lift and buttock augmentation.
  • Seek an effective and permanent body correction with long-lasting results

During the fat transfer procedure, the physician draws certain amount of fat from the donor area in the patient’s body by inserting a cannula and extracting the fat. Local anesthesia is used to prevent any discomfort. Once the fat is suctioned out, it is then processed and purified to isolate the cell fat needed for next phase. After obtaining the purified fat, the next phase is to inject into the targeted area which could be the face, breast or buttock. The surgeon may repeat these phases until the desired results are achieved.

Fat transfer not only improve body figure but also enhance its blood circulation. This is due to the presence of adipose stem cells in the fat that are collected and concentrated during the procedure.  The cells are important as they are equipped with the capability to regenerate damaged tissues and align the blood vessels in tissues.

After the surgery, the patients might experience mild swelling which last for few days. This side effect is a natural body response from the injected body area as it’s trying coupe with the sudden increase in the fat content. The swallowing can be easily reduced by frequently icing the swollen area and taking the medications provided by the physician.

Just like many other cosmetic surgeries, the outcomes of a fat transfer can vary from a person to another under variables such as age, fat volume and medical history. Regardless of these variations, the fat transfer is considered as safe since the cosmetic used in the procedure is the patient’s own fat. Thus, the chances of getting an infection or experiencing an allergic reactions are fairly dim.
