Choose Your Face Shape

Most women, particularly Asian, would love to possess more defined and sharper facial features. However, imbalance diet and unhealthy lifestyle can affect the overall shape of the face, causing it to lose definition.  Luckily, face shaping is there for the rescue when that happens.

But, before thinking of getting a face shaping treatment, you will first need to know your face shape. There are six face shapes that categorize most people on this planet; round, square, oval, long, diamond and heart. The first shape, the round face, also known as moon face, is soft and lacks sharpness of jaw angle. The width of the forehead, cheekbones, and jaw are equal. Weight gain is a major cause for round-faces due to the extra fat that builds up on the sides of the face. Having such face shape is not a health issue, yet it might make one feel self-conscious.

The second shape, the square face, is characterized with strong and angular jawlines. This type of face is attributed to masseter muscle which is used for chewing food. The masseter muscle can become enlarged when individuals habitually clench or grind their teeth and even in those who regularly chew gum. Notable celebrities with square faces include Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde and Patrick Neil Harris. This face type is common among Asians.

An oval face, the third shape, is slightly longer than it is wide with a forehead and jawline of almost the same width. For a long time, the oval face shape has been regarded as the ideal face shape for women. Its balance, versatility and proportions allowed it to fit well with almost any haircut, hairstyle or makeup.

The other face shapes, include long; longer than it is wide, diamond; wider at cheekbones and a narrow at the forehead and chin, and lastly, heart; wider at the forehead and gently narrow down at the jawline.

Once you’ve identified your face type, the next step is going for the treatment. Luckily, most face-shaping procedures, nowadays, aren’t invasive and require no surgery. Derma fillers including Botulinum toxin are very helpful in making the magic.

Let’s assume that you are square-faced, but you desire an oval-shaped one. Botulinum toxin injections will improve your facial shape by reducing the bulginess caused by masseter muscles. The treatment is considered safe. The only side effects that you might experience from the injections is the feeling of heaviness on the lower jaw which might make you feel lazy to chew. Luckily this feeling will subside within a month after which you will regain your strength and enjoy your new beautiful face.
